About Us
Rotary is a world wide organisation of 1.2 million men and women who share a common purpose – help improve the lives of others. Our motto is ‘service above self’.
Ripon Rotary Club was formed in 1927 and members come from all walks of life, businesses, professions and backgrounds and as a club, we are not aligned with any particular political or religious organisation.
In Ripon we have supported a number of local charities including:
- Jennyruth Workshops – providing work for the people with learning difficulties in our community
- Harrogate Homeless Project – Providing support for the homeless
- Ripon Food Bank – donating monthly collections of food
- The Salvation Army
- Carers’ Resource in Ripon
- Ripon Community Link and Walled Garden
- Dementia Forward
- YMCA
- Ripon Theatre Festival
- Ripon Together
- We run the Ripon Vision Support Group
In the community we organise litter picking, footpath clearance and tree and bulb planting and we also address any other local needs.
Ripon Rotary also works for the young of our City by sponsoring or providing:
- Rotary Young Leaders Award to help promote self-esteem, confidence and leadership
- Annual technology tournament
- Community-based environmental projects
- Young Musicians competition
- Interview teams to help school leavers to develop their job interview skills
We also contribute to projects globally, in particular to provide relief for those suffering in many natural disasters or conflicts, in particular through the Aquabox charity. We actively support VAMOS, a charity fighting poverty in Mexico.
In addition, Ripon Rotary through its Foundation charity is part of the worldwide project to eradicate Polio from the planet. This aim has almost been achieved.
Plus…
Along the way we do have a lot of fun, weekly lunches (Tuesdays at the Ripon Rugby Club), speakers and good fellowship!
