Need to know before entering as a rider

This bike ride is not a race; it's intended to be fun. But the main reason it is happening is to raise funds for charities such as Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Saint Michael's Hospice, Dementia Forward and others. So sign up, have fun, and help to raise a ton of money for good causes!

How much does it cost to enter as a rider?

The entry fee is £35.00 prior to closure of on line registration (05/05/2024) and £45.00 after that date. There will be a limited number of last minute rider places available (cash only, at the higher entry fee) at Bishop Monkton Village Hall on the day of the bike ride. This will be on a first-come-first-served basis from 07:30. But why not enter and pay online before then and get access to the Chevin Cycles discount voucher?

How do I generate sponsorship for my ride?

After you have registered as a rider you can login and download the Ripon Rotary Bike Ride sponsorship form from your RiderZone, and start asking your family, friends, work colleagues, church members and FaceBook friends etc to pledge an amount. Sneaky hint: try to get the first few on your sponsorship form to be the likely best contributors!

Is there a minimum sponsorship amount?

No, but the more the better!

Can I gift aid the sponsorship I get?

A UK tax payer can use the 'Just Giving' website to sponsor you if you set up a 'Just Giving' page. You will find the link to your JustGiving login or Sign-Up page after you login to the RiderZone.

Where is the start of the ride?

The Bike Ride starts at Bishop Monkton Village (HG3 3QG) and check-in is from 0700 to 0900, the earliest rider start being 0800.

Please note: There is no longer any vehicle parking available at the Village Hall. Only riders on bikes can check in here.

If arriving in a vehicle, please go straight to the parking field which is about 0.5 miles east, on the Boroughbridge Road, just opposite Lawnfield Road. (For your satnav: Lat 45.095206, Lon -1.491655 ; note the minus sign). After parking, cycle back to the Village Hall to check in.

The route to the parking will be signposted on the bike ride day.

What time do most people finish?

This is not a race! Many of the riders beginning at the latest start time of 9am arrive back at around 3pm. The last rider, usually an organising committee member, completes the ride at around 4pm.

Tell me about the route

The 100k route is not too hilly and if taken at a steady pace can be done by those with moderate levels of fitness. There are marshals at key points along the route should anyone require assistance.

The route is a circular one, with plenty of comfort breaks. It's a very special day of cycling and suitable for all standards of cyclists.

It is relatively flat through Bishop Monkton Village to Roecliffe and then through Boroughbridge. (This has a busy town centre on a Saturday so please take care).

The route then takes you north east to Brafferton and across through Raskelf to Easingwold, where there are public toilets.

We then go east to Stillington, before turning north at Marton Priory to Stearsby.

Turning south east, we head for a light lunch in Sheriff Hutton Village Hall.

Note: If you have allergies or special dietary needs you will need to bring your own food, although bananas will be provided!

The second part of the route takes you south west to Sutton-on-the-Forest, Huby and Tollerton, then crossing the River Ure at Aldwark.

Then through Great Ouseburn and Marton-cum-Grafton and crossing the A168 before reaching Arkendale.

The last part of the route takes you through Staveley, Copgrove and back to Bishop Monkton, where you can enjoy tea and plenty of home baking.

Is there a gpx file for my bike satnav?

A gpx file will be downloadable from the RiderZone using the login you create during the rider-entry process.

What is the minimum age for entering the bike ride?

The bike ride is for adults (over 18) but minors aged 16+ may enter subject to providing written authorisation signed by parent or guardian Get form here. Note: minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times on the ride.

Is there an upper age limit?

We do not ask your age, and leave it your own judgement whether you are fit to ride. Read the Disclaimer here

Can I complete one registration form for a group?

The leader may enter as a team leader and declare the team's name, then later purchase gift tokens for  the other team members, but the entry form for the other riders in the team must be completed by them separately, so that every entrant can have an individual registration and rider number.
